I’m curious as when I was 13 and visited DC and the beloved Smithsonian I saw a glass incased uniform that was supposedly was George Washington’s and it was in a case you could walk around and in what I assumed to be a form made to ‘fit’ this uniform that was supposedly his. It was navy blue in color and looked quite short and small! I remember thinking’s the time, “Wow! I always thought he was a bigger man!” Can you shed any light in this?

Clothing fit differently then; pants were short (by design) as well as waistcoats, and looking at them today it would seem they were meant to fit a shorter person. But the reality is that the people of 18th century America were not much shorter than modern people. Modern people are healthier due to better nutrition, and believe it or not, higher fat content in food.

George Washington was measured at 6’2″ by the French sculptor Houdon who did his life mask and full sized body statue. When he died his body was measured at 6’3″, not sure how accurate that measurement was though. Clothes were designed differently back then so it would appear someone was shorter than they actually were.

I was always told that he was 6 feet 3 and a half. Making the 2nd tallest President, only Lincoln was the tallest at 6’4″, yet here they’re saying he was 6’2″, please clarify?

George Washington was 6’2″. Houdon, a French sculptor who did GW’s life mask and full sized statue of him measured him at that height. When he died, he was measured at 6’3″ which was needed for his coffin. I’m not sure how accurate that measurement was though.

I’ve never been fond of poetry much less have an entire play in lyrics. I live about 3 blocks from the theatre and wouldn’t walk it. Also, watching The Shop LeBron said that it wasn’t good but just take the hit for a brother.
